28 Guesthouses in the Maldives Reopens—As of 20th October 2020

According to the Maldives Ministry of tourism, 28 guesthouses in the Maldives have reopened as of 20th October 2020.

28 guesthouses in the Maldives has reopened as of 20th October 2020. According to the Maldives Ministry of Tourism, the most number of guesthouses reopened in Kaafu Atoll, Huraa. Moreover, only guesthouses outside the Greater Male’ Region in the Maldives currently received approval to reopen.

Maldives’ Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom welcomed the first guesthouse tourists earlier. The guests also received a warm welcome at the ceremony held in Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll.

Guesthouse tourism was initially planned to resume in August 2020. However, the government decided to reopen guesthouses on 15th October 2020 as an extra precaution to COVID-19. Likewise, the permit to reopen guesthouses is issued by the island councils.

Tourists visiting the Maldives currently require a negative PCR test before arrival in the Maldives. The test must be taken less than 96 hours before guests depart to the Maldives. Furthermore, travelers must submit this PCR test result when completing the Traveler Health Declaration Form. And all tourists must submit this form via the immigration website.

COVID-19 has had a negative impact on the Maldives’ tourism industry. But, since the border reopening on 15th July 2020, tourist arrivals are rising at a steady pace. This month, from 1st October to 15th October, Maldives recorded 8,350 tourist arrivals. Thus, makes the total number of tourist arrivals 27,217 (since border reopening).
