Due to severe weather off the coast of Sri Lanka, the inaugural Sail Maldives yacht rally has been pushed back until the 25th of February.
The rally had initially been set to begin on 20th of January. The predicted weather conditions inhibit yachts from being able to safely travel from South East Asia to the Maldives. The decision to postpone the rally was taken to ensure the safety of sailors en-route to join.
Adeel Ahmed, the CEO of Luxury Collections and the organizer of the rally said “Cyclones south of Sri Lanka were inhibiting yachts from being able to sail to the Maldives in time for the start date. We regret any inconvenience this rescheduling may cause anyone, but would like to reassure you that all participants have been informed and were relieved to hear that we have rescheduled the date. Indeed, the participants have been very supportive of our decision to postpone the start of the rally in consideration of their safety.” He also mentioned that this opens up opportunity for anyone who hasn’t signed up yet to use the chance to seize the golden opportunity and join the rally.
The itinerary for the rally will include yachts cruising on a 60-day voyage from the far north to the far south of the Maldives, crossing the equator on the way. Additional options on activities include snorkeling, scuba-diving, traditional dance shows and cultural exhibitions across the archipelago will be available for participants to enjoy throughout the journey.
PR and Marketing Manager, Sarah Harvey mentioned “We shall, as ever, endeavor to keep everyone aware of any developments regarding Sail Maldives and would like to reassure those who have already signed up of our commitment to ensuring the Sail Maldives rally is a success.”
