65% of the Employees in the tourism industry of the Maldives has received their 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, in addition to the 65% of the workers who received their 2nd dose, 95% of employees received the 1st dose of the vaccine.
Tourism Ministry highlighted that employees in the tourism industry have received over 10 months of experience in managing COVID-19. Hence, this makes the Maldives of the safest destinations in the world. This feat is further proved as the island nation secured the WTTC Safety Stamp way before the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
Statistics from the Health Protection Agency of the Maldives (HPA) reveals 165,191 people in the Maldives received the 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by 29th May 2021. Meanwhile, 309,444 people in the island archipelago received the 1st dose of the vaccine.
To share a positive message about the vaccination of employees working in the tourism industry, the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with stakeholders recently launched the I’m Vaccinated Campaign. The campaign also promotes the initiatives undertaken to ensure the Maldives retains the status as one of the safest destinations in the world.
Once all the residents of the tropical holiday destination receive the vaccine, the Maldives plans to offer vaccines to travellers with the ‘Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation’ initiative.

The Maldives aims to welcome 1.5 million tourists this year. Over 30% of this target has been achieved as of 29th May 2021, as the country recorded over 450,000 tourist arrivals. In the first 5 months of 2021, tourist arrivals have increased by over 17.9% compared to the first 5 months of 2020.
