Hanimaadhoo International Airport Resumes International Flight Following Year Long Hiatus!

Since its announcement, the development project for the Hanimaadhoo International Airport has become a focal point. Travellers from all around the globe have been flocking to the Maldives to explore the resorts since tourism was introduced to the country. With this, easy connectivity within the islands became pivotal to the Maldives. Although seaplanes and speedboat transfers have accommodated for long, with the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport, travellers will have the opportunity to explore Northern Maldives islands with ease as well.

Expected Developments and Completion Date

Upon completion of the development project, the 30-year-old international airport will undergo the establishment of a 2.7-kilometre runway and a terminal with a capacity of 1.3 million passengers. AAdditionally, the project will also implement provisions for jet fuel storage. The project, signed in 2022, is expected to achieve full completion this year. This newly developed 38,000 sqmt apron has the ability to simultaneously accommodate three large aircraft and five general crafts. With this, travellers can expect better connectivity to explore untapped destinations in the North of Maldives.

Hanimaadhoo International Airport Welcomes Back International Flights!

The airport has reached yet another development stage on the 16th of April. Following a one year hiatus, the airport has yet again resumed international flights due to changes in operating hours. For the past year, authorities halted international flights to the airport to expedite the development project. According to The Edition Maldives, Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) is also expecting to complete the new runway within this month. This news comes after Maldivian Airlines announced flights between Hanimaadhoo International Airport and Trivandrum in 2024. The flag carrier of Maldives had announced that the services between Trivandrum, India and the Maldives will start from April 12th, 2024.
