To commemorate this year’s Eid Al-Fitr, Sun Siyam Iru Veli celebrated the occasion with a perfect blend of cultural festivities and a fresh start. On the evening of March 30th, vibrant beach games brought guests of all ages together, bringing the island to life. One of the highlights was ‘Kula Jehun,’ a traditional Maldivian color festival, which transformed the beach into a canvas of vivid hues, creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness.
The Unveiling of Magoodhoo Beach
The true centerpiece of the celebrations occurred two days later, on April 1st, with the highly anticipated unveiling of Magoodhoo Beach. This event not only celebrated the festive season but also underscored the resort’s commitment to environmental preservation. The guests sipped cocktails during a sunset gathering that honored the coconut palm—an essential part of Maldivian culture, symbolizing both utility and growth. In a meaningful gesture, the resort encouraged attendees to plant their own coconut palms, ensuring that their connection to the island would last for years to come, with the promise of watching their trees flourish upon every return.
A Symbol of Sustainability and New Beginnings
The opening of the beach embodied the very essence of Eid—renewal, transformation, and new beginnings. The celebration honored the resilience of the Maldivian coconut palm while also showcasing the resort’s sustainable initiatives. The resort carefully relocated coconut palms that had been uprooted from N. Magoodhoo due to a road expansion project, bringing them to their new home on what was once Dolphin Beach. While the resort had already transplanted 71 palms, guests added an additional 80 trees, marking their personal contributions to this green initiative. These trees, both newly planted and already rooted, symbolize growth, endurance, and hope—representing the resort’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
Along with planting trees, the guests explored the multifaceted value of the coconut palm. From unique handcrafted items made from its leaves to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres featuring coconut as a key ingredient, the event showcased the endless possibilities offered by this iconic tree.
The celebration not only reflected the resort’s conservation efforts but also invited guests to form a lasting bond with the land. At Sun Siyam Iru Veli, every coconut palm planted stands as a testament to the resort’s respect for nature and its ongoing commitment to preserving the tropical paradise for generations to come.
