Sri Lankan Airlines has announced the operations of special repatriation flights to London and Melbourne due to the pandemic

Sri Lankan Airlines has announced the operations of special repatriation flights to London and Melbourne. Assisting Sri Lankans in UK and Australia wishing to return home, the airline will conduct these flights in the coming days.  

Sri Lankan airlines will be operating flights to London on 03rd May, 04th May, and 05th May 2020. Repatriation flight to Melbourne, Australia will be conducted on 08th May 2020. These special flights are conducted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Sri Lanka.

The pandemic surged in the UK during late January 2020. The nation has seen more than 6,000 positive cases daily, and recorded over 700 COVID-19 related deaths. The country has reported a total of 177,454 confirmed cases and over 27,000 deaths as of yet. The country’s risk level has been raised to high risk too.

Australia confirmed its first case of COVID-19 in late January 2020. Since then, the nation has seen more than 6,000 positive cases. While more than 5,000 patients recovered, Australia recorded a total of 93 deaths as of yet.

Sri Lanka has also been battling COVID-19 since late January 2020. The country has recorded 690 positive cases, 182 recoveries and 07 deaths since then.

The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic forced a number of countries to close its borders and impose travel restricts. Along with major airlines, Sri Lankan airlines has temporarily suspended scheduled passenger flights till 15th May 2020.
