Emerald Maldives Resort and Spa is an idyllic haven built to blend in perfect harmony with the nature. From using natural materials for construction to adopting a ‘Think Green’ mentality, this eco-friendly resort aims to preserve the environment.
Emerald Maldives has taken several sustainable initiatives with the intention to live in harmony with the surrounding ecosystem and biodiversity. Among the many sustainable initiatives taken by the resort, the switch from plastic to glass contributes to preserving the nature while using non invasive designs. Stunning accommodation villas and facilities at the green resort are all constructed using natural materials like stone, wood, etc. All villas at Emerald Maldives are equipped with solar panels in order to provide hot water throughout the resort including staff accommodations. Furthermore, the resort also created a sustainable process of reusing water for irrigation purposes.
As we define ourselves as guests of a beautiful ecosystem, we are contributing to the environment’s protection with different initiatives such as: the use of bikes and electric cars; the use of green waste (dried leaves etc..) as mulch for soil stabilization; the use of paper straws, provided only on request basis, instead of plastic ones.”
Srikanth Devarapalli, General Manager at Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa
One of the main goals of Emerald Maldives is to enrich the resort’s garden and sure internal supply of vegetables in the near future. A variety of vegetables are grown on the resort already. In addition to that, a composting facility is also available at Emerald Maldives, where the food waste is converted into organic fertilizer for the gardens.
Creating awareness and eco-friendly travellers, Emerald Maldives offers educational sessions on marine life protection with the resident marine biologist. The sessions cover everything one has to know in order to understand marine life, the threats, as well as how they can contribute to the conservation of the ecosystem.
Emerald enhances the natural charm with a build out that exists in harmony with the surrounding seascape. Bamboo, driftwood, native langhi langhi leaves have all been incorporated into construction. The resort is operating largely devoid of single-use plastic. It hopes to rely primarily on renewable energy within the next five years.”
