Russian Airlines, also known as Aeroflot has announced the resumption of its flights to the Maldives. The flag carrier of Russia also announced the recommencement of its operations to Egypt and the United Arab Emirates as well. The largest airline of Russia, Aeroflot has been operating flights to the Maldives for 10 years.
The Russian government has revealed Russian Airlines will operate 2 flights on a weekly basis to main Velana International Airport. In addition to that, the airline will operate three flights a week to Egypt as well. A direct flight from Russia to the Maldives would take about 9 hours. Aeroflot is one of the oldest active airline services in the world. It was founded and has been operating since 1923.
[Russian] Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order on the mutual resumption of international flights with the following countries: Egypt (Cairo), three flights a week; the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), two flights a week; the Republic of Maldives (Velana International Airport), two flights a week.

Recently, leading travel agent Resort Life Travel partnered with Anex Tour to operate charter flights between the Maldives and Russia as well. Likewise, the travel agency had a partnership with Anex Tour back in 2019 to bring charter flights to the Maldives from Russia respectively. Resort Life Travel is also hosting marketing activities in the Russian and Central-Europe markets to promote the Maldives.
Major airlines operating flights to the Maldives have recommenced operations since the Maldives border reopening on 15th July 2020. Tourist arrivals to the Maldives are on the rise once again with 7,628 arrivals recorded in August 2020. Presently, a select number of resorts and liveaboards are currently open for tourism in the Maldives. However, the number of resorts reopening has been increasing with strict measures taken to attract more visitors to the Maldives.
