The Maldives has recorded 8,350 tourist arrivals from 1st October to 15th October 2020 with Russia as the leading tourist source market.

The Maldives has recorded 8,350 tourist arrivals from 1st October to 15th October 2020. According to the figures by the Maldives Immigration, Russia is the leading tourist market during this period with 2,308 arrivals. The Russian Market has been the strongest source market in terms of tourist arrivals since the borders reopened.

Followed by Russia, a total of 656 tourists from the United States arrived in the Maldives during the first 15 days of this month. And 525 tourist arrivals were recorded from the United Kingdom as well. Meanwhile, tourist arrivals from the United Arab Emirates, one of the strongest performing source markets stood at 444. The Maldives also recorded 443 tourist arrivals from Germany during this period.

Tourist arrivals from neighboring India stood at 417. India is a key focus market in the recovery of tourism in the Maldives. Moreover, in 2019, India ranked in the 2nd position of the highest performing markets to the Maldives as well.

Tourist arrivals from France, Ukraine, and Spain stood at 375, 361, and 335 respectively. Furthermore, Maldives saw 267 tourist arrivals from Brazil as well.

The Immigration of Maldives also revealed a total of 27,217 tourists arrived in the Maldives during the first three months after the border reopened. Moreover, Tourist arrivals have grown by 56% compared to the second month. The highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day is also in October 2020.

In September 2020, Maldives recorded 9,538 tourist arrivals according to the Maldives Immigration. Tourist arrivals have been slowly increasing since the border reopening. Maldives Ministry of Tourism revealed that the objective is to keep the tourism industry stable once again.

The Maldives has also resumed guesthouse operations outside the Greater Male’ Region on 15th October 2020. According to the Ministry of Tourism, 28 guesthouses have been reopened—As of 20th October 2020.
