On Saturday, 7th November 2020, Thulusdhoo Island welcomed its first guest after the Maldives reopened its borders. Kaafu Atoll Thulusdhoo is one of the most sought after destination for guesthouse travellers for surfers as the island has the world-class famous surf break Cokes in addition to multiple diving points. The island has over 20 guesthouses. Likewise, more properties are being developed.

All the guesthouses in Thulusdhoo worked together with the island council, the health centre and other institutions to prepare the island for the reopening. The guesthouses organized a grand reopening ceremony for the arrival of the first guests. Minister of Tourism, Dr Abdulla Mausoom, and other officials from Tourism Ministry joined the event.

During the Minister’s brief speech he lighted on the cooperation of guesthouses to prepare the island to meet the safety standards and also emphasized the importance of working together to market and promote the Island as a brand.

The first guests who arrived in Thulusdhoo were surfers from Israel. They had come to Canopus Retreat Thulusdhoo property which is one of the most popular guesthouses in Thulusdhoo. The property is a 12 room beachfront property overlooking the popular Cokes surf break. The owners of the property had also travelled from Male to Thulusdhoo to attend the ceremony.

Canopus Retreat Thulusdhoo offers guests modern amenities and service. Some of the features from the wide range of services available at the guesthouse include; television LCD/plasma screen, mirror, towels, umbrella, internet access and more. In addition to that, the guesthouse located in a convenient location offers canoe, watersports equipment rentals, snorkelling, and surfing lessons as well.

The government initially set Guesthouse tourism to resume in August 2020. But, changed plans to reopen guesthouses on 15th October 2020. Which is was as an extra precaution to COVID-19. furthermore, Island councils issue the permit for guesthouse operations.
