Guesthouses and hotels in the greater Malé Region will reopen from 14th December 2020, according to tourism minister.

Guesthouses in the greater Malé Region will reopen from 14th December 2020. Maldives’ Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom announced on Twitter that the government will grant permission for guesthouses and hotels in the greater Malé Region to reopen from 14th of this month.

Minister Mausoom said a gusts will require a 72 hours exit PCR screening to visit these guesthouses and hotels.

Currently, a number of guesthouses in local islands have reopened. While the government initially planned to grant guesthouses permission to reopen in August, it was later delayed as an extra precaution to COVID-19.

So, guesthouses opened in 15th October 2020 with the first guests arriving in Maafushi. Furthermore, Local Island Councils issue to permit for guesthouses in islands to reopen.

Several guesthouses operate in the Greater Malé Region. Hulhumalé features chic inns and boutique guesthouses near the beachside. Meanwhile, in the capital Malé, notable hotels include Hotel Jen by Shangri-la, Champa Central Hotel, Mookai Hotel, Mookai Suites, Maagiri Hotel and Samann Grand.
