Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas Introduces the Maldives’ First Magnesium-Based Spa Treatments

Magnesium Spa Treatments at Anantara Kihavah Maldives

In the heart of the Maldives’ Baa Atoll, Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas introduces a distinctive addition to the country’s wellness scene: the first spa treatments in the Maldives built around pure magnesium. This new offering reflects a growing shift in how luxury travellers approach rest, recovery, and holistic care.

To develop the concept, the resort partnered with “Of The Islands”, a wellness company that sources magnesium chloride from a rare natural deposit located 1,500 metres below ground in the Netherlands. The collaboration combines scientific insight with nature-based therapies, resulting in a treatment philosophy that reaches beyond the typical spa experience.

Ratheesh Parambil, Director of Spa & Wellness at Anantara Kihavah, shared his thoughts on the collaboration.

“With the introduction of this partnership, we are thrilled to elevate holistic wellbeing to new heights at Kihavah. This marks the first stage of our evolution, where we integrate magnesium wellness products to enhance our offerings. Our commitment to providing comprehensive health and wellness solutions is stronger than ever, and we are excited to embark on this journey towards better wellbeing for all our guests.”

A New Approach to Healing

The overwater spa at Anantara Kihavah has long earned recognition for its peaceful setting and broad range of wellness practices, including Ayurvedic therapies, sound healing, and energy work. Now, the spa expands on that legacy with a new suite of magnesium-based treatments that support the body on a deeper level.

These five new treatments incorporate magnesium because it plays a role in more than 300 biological functions, such as muscle recovery, cardiovascular health, restful sleep, and nervous system regulation. Since the body absorbs only limited amounts from oral supplements, these treatments deliver magnesium through the skin during massages, scrubs, and soaking rituals, allowing for faster and more effective absorption.

Tailored Rituals for Every Guest

The spa team designed each treatment in the new collection with a specific purpose. One full-body massage targets immune support and stress relief. Another 90-minute ritual begins with a magnesium scrub and continues with a massage using a nutrient-rich magnesium butter. A more comprehensive experience combines bodywork with a facial component. Another option pairs a coffee-magnesium scrub with a gel massage for an energising effect. Guests seeking tranquility can enjoy a magnesium salt bath that provides deep relaxation.

These rituals suit guests recovering from long-haul travel, intensive physical activity, or the mental fatigue of a high-pressure lifestyle. They go beyond sensory indulgence to deliver measurable wellness benefits.

A Remedy for the Demands of Modern Life

The addition of magnesium-based spa therapies reflects a growing demand for wellness that provides both enjoyment and real results. By blending natural elements with scientifically grounded techniques, Anantara Kihavah offers guests a purposeful experience beyond standard pampering.

As the first resort in the Maldives to provide this type of treatment, Anantara Kihavah leads in innovative wellness travel. The peaceful island setting, where ocean views stretch endlessly and time seems to slow, invites guests to renew, find balance, and regain inner calm.

Seagrass Mapping & Awareness Project: Protecting Marine Life

At the core of Pullman Maldives Maamutaa’s environmental efforts is its three-phase Seagrass Mapping & Awareness Project, which forms part of the resort’s commitment to sustainability under the Green Globe program. Seagrass meadows play a vital role in supporting young marine species and soaking up carbon, making their conservation absolutely crucial.

The project timeline is as follows:

  • Phase 1 (July) focuses on seagrass identification and mapping alongside resort staff and guests.
  • Then, in Phase 2 (August and September), guest-led snorkeling excursions help gather images and raise awareness.
  • Finally, Phase 3 (October) will feature the premiere of a short documentary highlighting the project’s findings and impact.

Throughout this process, guests are invited to actively take part in this meaningful conservation initiative, turning their vacation into a valuable contribution toward ocean health.

Maamutaa House Reef: A Living Marine Wonderland

Just 100 meters from the resort’s beach lies the newly revealed Maamutaa House Reef, a vibrant underwater habitat bursting with life and color. This reef stands out as a rare gem in the Maldives, offering exceptional biodiversity along with easy access. Visitors can spot green and hawksbill turtles, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, colorful schools of parrotfish and angelfish, and sometimes eagle rays and octopuses, all within easy reach of the resort.

“This reef is not only accessible, it’s alive,” shares the resort’s marine biologist. “Guests don’t need to travel far to witness marine wonders. It’s an ecosystem that inspires awe and action.”

The journey to the reef is part of the adventure itself. Guests glide through flourishing seagrass meadows, essential habitats for marine life before reaching the reef’s drop-off. Here, hard and soft coral formations flourish, nurtured by the atoll’s natural geography and nutrient-rich ocean currents.
