In World Luxury Hotel Awards 2020, Kurumba Maldives was the Continent Winner in Luxury Family Hotel and Regional Win in Best Unique Experience Spa.

Established in 2006, World Luxury Hotel Awards recognises the highest achievements across the global hotel industry. Over 300,000 guests, travellers and industry players alike vote in the Awards.

Kurumba was the very first private island resort in the Maldives when it opened its doors in 1972. Opened by four young Maldivians on an uninhabited coconut plantation island in October 1972, the resort also marked the beginning of the tourism industry in the island nation.

Olivier Moies-Delval, General Manager of SO/ Maldives, states that the resort continues to set new benchmarks in luxury hospitality by fusing high fashion with avant-garde gastronomy. He adds,

A Wealth of Experience and Global Perspective

Furthermore, Chef Nyoman brings nearly 30 years of culinary experience to her new role. She has worked with some of the most prestigious hotel brands in the world, including Rosewood, Marriott, Shangri-La, and the Royal Palace of Jordan. Her extensive experience also includes notable positions at Montigo Resorts and Coco Boduhithi Maldives. Over the past decade, Chef Nyoman has played a vital role in Accor Hotels, contributing significantly at Sofitel Macau, Pullman Guangzhou, Pullman Maldives, and now, SO/ Maldives.

Moreover, Chef Nyoman’s roots trace back to Bali, Indonesia, where her love for food began in her childhood, inspired by her mother’s traditional cooking techniques. After formal training at the Hotel Academy in Indonesia, she launched her distinguished career, which has taken her across various countries and culinary traditions. Thus, her diverse background brings a global perspective to every dish she creates.

Despite the challenges that come with navigating a traditionally male-dominated industry, Chef Nyoman has proven her abilities and leadership through perseverance and determination.
