Oscars: Full List of Winners for 2024!

After yet another amazing year of music, film, and some amazing directing the Oscar 2024 finally revealed the best of the best.

Even before the Oscars, many had already started predicting what movie would win the best picture this year. Many had already predicted it to be Oppenheimer, as the movie took the internet and cinemas by storm right after its release. With close to no marketing needed, for many, the movie was one of the best cinema experiences that they have had so far. But the Oscars are more than just the best film, so here is the full list of the Oscar winners for 2024!

Best Picture

That’s right. We all guessed it. Oppenheimer featuring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt and all the other stars that we know and love took home the Best Picture award at Oscars 2024. The movie was an amazing production by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven, and Christopher Nolan which had people hooked to the screens for three straight hours!

Another major guess for this category was Barbie, which was produced by David Heyman, Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner. Although Barbie did not win the best picture, the movie did win the hearts of many in 2023 as pink became a popular colour following its launch. Some of the other movies that competed in the category include:

  • American Fiction produced by Ben LeClair, Nikos Karamigios, Cord Jefferson, and Jermaine Johnson
  • Anatomy of a Fall produced by Marie-Ange Luciani and David Thion
  • The Holdovers produced by Mark Johnson
  • Killers of the Flower Moon produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Martin Scorsese, and Daniel Lupi
  • Maestro by Bradley Cooper, Steven Spielberg, Fred berner, Amy Durning and Kristie Macosko Krieger
  • Past Lives by David Hinojosa, Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler
  • Poor Things by Andre Lowe, Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone
  • The Zone of Interest by James Wilson

Best Actor & Actress in a Leading Role

With Oppenheimer taking the spot for Best Picture, it’s barely a surprise that Cillian Murphy won Best Actor in a Leading Role. Cillian has been gaining extra fame since his role in Oppenheimer. This, however, is not his first role garnering such popularity. Prior to this, Cillian has also been noted for his astonishing acting in Peaky Blinders.

To many people’s surprise, Emma Stone won the Best Actress for Poor Things. Although the movie just came out, Emma Stone has been an actress loved by many in all her previous roles as well.

Best Feature Films

There were three different categories under feature films. So here are the winners. The Boy and the Heron won the place for Best Animated Feature Film. Again, this is no surprise as everyone likes anything by Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki!

20 Days in Mariupol won the Best Documentary Film while The Zone of Interest won the Best International Film.

Best Short Film

The Best Short Film Category also had three sub-categories. The winner of Best Animated Short Film at the Oscars was War Is Over! This short film was inspired by the Music of John & Yoko.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar won the Best Live-Action Short Film. This film was directed by the popular Wes Anderson and Steven Rales. The Last Repair by Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers took home the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film.

Best Cinematography, Costume Design, Makeup & Hairstyling

Best Cinematography was yet another Oscar category that Oppenheimer managed to win! In competition were movies such as Maestro and Poor Things. When it came to Best Costume Design as well as Best Makeup and Hairstyling Poor Things took first place.

Best Original Song

The Oscar for Best Original Song went to ‘What Was I Made For?’ by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell. The song was featured in the Barbie Movie, and became a popular hit alongside ‘I’m Just Ken’. If you watched the Oscars, you might have also caught the moment when Billie Eilish met Ariana Grande, who attended in a beautiful pink gown!

Best Original Score, Production Design, Film Editing, Sound & Visual Effects

The Oscar for Best Original Score and Best Film Editing also went to Oppenheimer. The movie appears to have made an impact since its release, winning more Oscars than any other nominees. The Best Production Design went to Poor Things, while Best Sound went to The Zone of Interest. The last Oscar category to be announced was the Best Visual Effects. This category was won by Godzilla: Minus One!

FIFA Names Saudi Arabia as Host of 2034 World Cup

2034 World Cup Saudi Arabia

FIFA has officially named Saudi Arabia as the host for the 2034 World Cup, marking a major milestone in the country’s Vision 2030 plan. The announcement took place during the Extraordinary FIFA Congress on 13 December 2024. With this decision, Saudi Arabia becomes the second Middle Eastern nation to host the prestigious tournament, following Qatar in 2022.

A Historic First for the 2034 World Cup

For the first time ever, the 2034 World Cup will feature 48 teams, expanding from the previous 32-team format. Matches will be spread across five cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and the futuristic city of Neom. With 15 state-of-the-art stadiums, the event will offer a compact and immersive experience for fans. The country’s well-developed transport network will make travel between cities simple and quick.

This selection fits perfectly with Saudi Arabia’s larger goals to become a global sports leader. As part of Vision 2030, the country aims to diversify its economy and raise its profile worldwide, with football playing a key role. Hosting the World Cup will provide a chance for Saudi Arabia to highlight its rich culture, beautiful landscapes, and modern infrastructure to the world.

Along with the 2034 Word Cup announcement, FIFA also confirmed Morocco, Spain, and Portugal as co-hosts for the 2030 World Cup. Moreover, special centenary matches will be taking place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. This dual announcement shows FIFA’s commitment to bringing countries together through football and expanding the tournament’s reach across continents.

With a decade to go until the event begins, Saudi Arabia is preparing to deliver a World Cup that promises not only top-tier football but also a lasting impact on the region and the world.
