Sirru Fen Fushi Leads Ocean Conservation with Freediving Experience for World Oceans Day

Sirru Fen Fushi Celebrates World Oceans Day with Freediving

This June, a remote luxury hideaway in the Maldives is turning a global celebration into something far more personal and deeply impactful. Sirru Fen Fushi – Private Lagoon Resort, partners with Freedive Maldives to mark World Oceans Day with a unique underwater experience that blends adventure with purpose.

Freedive Maldives, which organized the record-breaking static apnea event in October 2022 that earned a Guinness World Record, brings its expertise to one of the most stunning environments in the country. The resort’s vast natural lagoon and expansive 9-kilometer house reef, one of the largest in the Maldives, provide the perfect setting for a meaningful dive beneath the surface.

Over several days, guests can join PADI-certified freediving sessions that range from introductory to advanced levels and earn their certifications along the way. In addition, the experience offers a rare chance to explore the reef’s vibrant marine life. Manta ray cleaning stations, nurse shark zones, coral gardens, and turtle nesting areas all thrive in these waters. Notably, the reef has already seen 11 turtle hatchings this year and hosts 93 resident turtles.

A Deeper Purpose Beneath the Surface

Lukasz Prendke, General Manager of Sirru Fen Fushi, emphasizes the deeper purpose behind the initiative.

“Our house reef, one of the longest and most vibrant in the Maldives, is a sanctuary for marine life and a symbol of our deep commitment to ocean conservation. We are honoured to collaborate with Freedive Maldives in celebrating World Oceans Day, not only to offer our guests an unforgettable underwater journey, but also to empower local talents and inspire our community to protect what lies beneath the surface.”

Moreover, the resort actively supports sustainability through regular lagoon cleanups and marine conservation programs. Its collaboration with Freedive Maldives further strengthens this commitment and brings both visitors and locals into ongoing efforts to protect the ocean.

Setting the Stage for a Record-Breaking Future

Looking ahead, Freedive Maldives plans to host another large-scale freediving event in October 2025 in collaboration with the Baa Atoll Council, aligning the event with World Tourism Day and aiming for another record-breaking turnout. This event will further establish Baa Atoll as a leading destination for sustainable marine tourism. Sirru Fen Fushi’s World Oceans Day celebration not only fosters a deeper connection between people and the sea but also reinforces the importance of nature, responsibility, and conservation. Through this initiative, guests are not merely exploring the ocean—they are actively contributing to its preservation for future generations.

AirAsia MOVE: The First Airline-Owned Online Travel Agency, a Digital Transformation Led by Tony Fernandes

AirAsia MOVE: The First Airline-Owned Online Travel Agency

In a bold move redefining the travel industry, AirAsia has transformed its once flight-focused platform into AirAsia MOVE, the first airline-owned online travel agency (OTA) of its kind. Capital A backs the initiative, and Tony Fernandes leads the charge. This shift goes beyond a rebrand. Instead, it marks a mission to control the entire travel experience, from booking to boarding and beyond.

AirAsia MOVE does more than just offer AirAsia flights. In fact, the platform delivers a full-scale travel ecosystem that lets users book from over 700 airlines, browse more than 900,000 hotels worldwide, arrange ground transport, purchase insurance, and tap into perks through its MOVE Rewards loyalty program. Overall, it serves as a one-stop travel app that combines convenience, affordability, and personalisation — all from your phone.

Powering Travel with Technology and Flexibility

Importantly, the platform’s traveler-first approach sets it apart. AirAsia CEO Nadia Omer has pushed AirAsia MOVE toward hyper-personalised experiences by using AI and data to offer real-time, relevant deals tailored to each user. Whether you travel frequently or plan spontaneous getaways, the app makes planning seamless and intuitive.

Furthermore, Fernandes envisions a future where AirAsia MOVE helps democratise travel and connect ASEAN like never before. The platform’s latest feature, Easy Cancel, clearly reflects this philosophy. It gives passengers the ability to cancel flights up to 48 hours before departure and receive a refund, no questions asked. Without a doubt, this level of flexibility stands out in the world of budget travel and remains exclusive to the MOVE app.

Strength Through Strategic Partnerships

To strengthen its offerings, AirAsia MOVE has formed strategic partnerships with companies like PKFare. These collaborations unlock exclusive fares, deliver ultra-fast search results, and strengthen cybersecurity. Consequently, AirAsia MOVE has gained a sharp competitive edge in the saturated OTA market.

Tony Fernandes calls AirAsia MOVE his “proudest digital transformation,” and for good reason. Ultimately, what began as an airline has evolved into a tech-driven travel powerhouse. The app doesn’t just help people move. Rather, it helps them move smarter, faster, and with more freedom than ever.
