Summer Island Maldives Marked World Oceans Day with Freediving and Reef Conservation Activities

Summer Island Maldives celebrated World Oceans Day with freediving, snorkelling, coral reef tours, and marine conservation activities.

On 8 June, Summer Island Maldives celebrated World Oceans Day with a special morning of activities that raised awareness about marine conservation. Umair Badheeu, the Maldives’ national record-holding freediver and a passionate advocate for ocean protection, led the event.

Throughout the morning, guests and resort staff took part in a variety of ocean-focused experiences that helped them build a deeper connection to the sea and understand the importance of preserving marine ecosystems for future generations.

Exploring Freediving and Mindful Ocean Connection

The day kicked off at Avi Bar, where Umair introduced participants to the fundamentals of freediving; a breath-hold diving technique that fosters a more mindful and immersive experience underwater. Thanks to his approachable teaching style, Umair guided guests through key skills that helped them appreciate the ocean in a new way.

As the session progressed, participants gained confidence and curiosity, eager to explore more of what the underwater world has to offer.

Guided Snorkelling Tour Showcases Coral Conservation Efforts

Soon after, attendees joined a 90-minute guided snorkelling tour of Summer Island’s vibrant house reef. The tour also included a stop at the Blue Lagoon coral garden, which features the world’s largest 3D-printed coral reef, a major step forward in marine restoration.

Before entering the water, participants completed a full equipment and safety briefing. Along with that, they received a helpful refresher on respectful reef practices to make sure they approached the marine environment with care.

During the tour, Umair gave a live freediving demonstration, which added a memorable and inspiring highlight to the whole experience. Guests gathered around to watch, many expressing their excitement and admiration afterward.

Meanwhile, the resort’s Water Sports and Transport team supported the session from start to finish, making sure everything ran smoothly and that guests enjoyed the activities safely and comfortably.

Open Q&A Sheds Light on Ocean Health and Conservation

After the snorkelling tour, everyone gathered once more as Umair hosted an open Q&A session. Here, he shared personal insights on the health of our oceans and explained why conservation matters now more than ever.

At this point, Umair also highlighted several of Summer Island Maldives’ sustainability efforts, including:

  • A coral planting programme that helps regenerate local reefs
  • Ongoing initiatives to eliminate single-use plastics throughout the resort
  • On-site guest experiences that promote marine awareness

Later in the day, guests teamed up with resort staff for a hands-on ocean clean-up.

More Ocean Awareness Activities Planned For Future

Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, Summer Island Maldives now plans to host regular ocean awareness sessions throughout the year. Each event will spotlight a different marine conservation theme from reef restoration to sustainable tourism. Offering guests and staff more opportunities to engage with and help protect the Maldives’ extraordinary underwater world.

Raise a Glass: Champagne Guy Charbaut Celebrates Five Years of Collaboration with THE OZEN COLLECTION

Champagne Guy Charbaut partners with THE OZEN COLLECTION, offering exclusive events and rare vintages at Maldives’ luxury resorts.

A luxurious Champagne and fine dining experience returns to the Maldives as Champagne Guy Charbaut and THE OZEN COLLECTION celebrate five years of their signature collaboration. From 20 to 26 October 2025, guests at OZEN LIFE MAADHOO and OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI will enjoy a week of exclusive events. These experiences celebrate rare vintages, gourmet cuisine, and island elegance. The collaboration brings together the rich heritage of Champagne Guy Charbaut. A family-run house from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, France with the curated luxury of THE OZEN COLLECTION.

What Makes This Partnership So Special?

Founded in 1936, Champagne Guy Charbaut has spent nearly a century perfecting its craft. The winery creates elegant cuvées shaped by the limestone terroir of the French countryside. Meanwhile, THE OZEN COLLECTION delivers immersive hospitality in some of the world’s most stunning settings. When you bring these two together, you get something pretty special.

That’s exactly what happened here. This partnership blends Champagne, culinary artistry, and island luxury into a one-of-a-kind annual tradition.

Xavier Charbaut puts it perfectly:
“We have discovered something extraordinary with THE OZEN COLLECTION. What began as a meeting of philosophies—our devotion to terroir, their dedication to moments—has blossomed into a tradition that reinvents itself each year. These shores have become a second home for our champagnes. The salt-kissed air seems to amplify their vibrancy. As we raise our glasses to five years of shared excellence, we see not an endpoint, but a horizon brimming with possibilities.”

And that’s not all. Looking ahead, he adds:
The next chapter will unveil even more daring pairings. More intimate encounters with our rarest vintages. And perhaps a few surprises we’re still carefully guarding in our cellars.”

A Shared Commitment to Craft and Experience

Of course, the collaboration doesn’t stop when the week ends. Champagne Guy Charbaut’s bottles remain available across both resorts throughout the year.

Whether you’re sipping the Cuvée de Réserve ‘Old Vines’ Brut or the vibrant Rosé 1er Cru Brut, each bottle offers a new reason to celebrate.

Nicolas Laguette, Director of Wines at Atmosphere Core, sums it up well:
“The union between Champagne Guy Charbaut and THE OZEN COLLECTION represents the very essence of what modern luxury should be. A harmonious dialogue between heritage and innovation, where every detail is considered and every moment is elevated.”
