Ocean Discovery Week with Jeff Milisen

Jeff Milisen, a distinguished marine biology scientist and celebrated blackwater photographer, unveils the mysteries of nocturnal marine life. Renowned for his captivating imagery capturing elusive species, Jeff’s expertise has garnered international acclaim, including 14 prestigious contest wins. Dive professionals and scientists worldwide use Jeff’s book “A Field Guide to Blackwater Diving in Hawaii” for training. Complementing Jeff’s passion, Sarah Milisen, Director of Education at a 5-Star PADI Dive Center in Hawaii, channels her extensive in-water experience of 23 years into nurturing environmentally conscious ocean stewards.

Exciting Adventures Waiting to be Explored

During The Nautilus Ocean Discovery Week, guests can immerse themselves in the enchanting world of the ocean with guided night snorkelling and diving experiences. The guests are invited to explore the depths and discover the magic beneath the waves. Led by knowledgeable guides Jeff and Sarah, participants will delve into the captivating realm of nocturnal marine life. Guests will witness a mesmerizing display of fluorescent corals and the intricate patterns of nocturnal fish, offering a unique perspective on the underwater world after dark.

As part of the week’s activities, guests will also have the exclusive opportunity to embark on an excursion to Hanifaru Bay. This area holds renown as one of the world’s premier manta ray feeding grounds! Here, guests will have the exclusive opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring sight of these majestic creatures. Before venturing out on the private guided manta experience, guests will also have the privilege of learning from The Nautilus’s resident marine biologist, gaining insights into the fascinating behaviour and ecology of manta rays.

Exploring Beyond the Ocean

Guests can venture beyond the ocean’s embrace and indulge in a myriad of activities to suit every adventurer’s palate. From exhilarating water sports such as Seabob or E-foil expeditions to mindful and tranquil escapes at Solasta Spa. Here guests can experience unique in-water relaxation techniques including floating yoga, breathwork and meditation in the overwater pavilion, and water sound healing.

The resort is also inviting young wanderers and teens to participate in a marine biologist workshop. Additionally, there are Bubble Maker courses, an underwater treasure hunt, and a watercolour art workshop on offer. Participants can also enjoy a mocktail-making class and an engaging blackwater photo exhibition hosted by Jeff. Aspiring underwater photographers will have the exclusive opportunity to learn from Jeff, who generously shares his professional insights and techniques.

At Hulhule Island Hotel, Chef Ismail Naseer has taken on the role of Executive Sous Chef. Chef Ismail’s journey with the hotel is remarkable—he started as a Commis I and, over time, rose through the ranks thanks to his hard work and passion for the culinary arts. His dedication has earned him several awards, including first-place finishes at prestigious national culinary competitions.

Chef Ismail extends his culinary expertise beyond the kitchen. He is also a certified culinary judge with the World Association of Chefs’ Societies. Before returning to Hulhule Island Hotel, Chef Ismail served as the Sous Chef at Skyfall Lounge & Restaurant, where he further honed his leadership skills. Now, back at Hulhule, he’s ready to bring even more creativity and excellence to the hotel’s dining experiences.

Enhancing Operations at Madifushi Private Island

Meanwhile, at Madifushi Private Island, Ahmed Aneel has joined the team as the new Assistant Transport Manager. Aneel is no stranger to the hospitality industry. He began his career in transport management at Kuramathi Island Resort and Spa. His experience grew at VARU By Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts, as well as Oblu Xperience Ailafushi and Oblu Select Lobigili.

With a strong background in logistics, scheduling, and transport operations, Aneel’s expertise will be key in improving the guest experience at Madifushi. He will focus on streamlining operations and ensuring smooth transportation for guests, which is crucial for creating seamless stays on the island.

Ali Shakir, the Group General Manager, shared his excitement about the new appointments.
