MakeMyTrip revealed that the Maldives currently ranks high on the list of leisure travel destinations for Indian travellers. As reported by Hindustan Times, international travel is expected to rise in India in the coming months and Maldives is one of the top destinations travellers prefer.

The Maldives is one of the most popular destinations for Indian travellers. More specifically, the tropical island destination is a trendy hotspot for Bollywood celebrities.

Along with Russia, India is a major tourist market to the Maldives; currently ranking as the 2nd biggest market in terms of arrivals.

After India faced a surge in COVID-19 cases, tourists from the country were no longer allowed to stay in guesthouses in the Maldives from 27th April 2021. Then, on 13th May 2021 Maldives Immigration suspended entry for tourists from South Asian countries.

As the COVID-19 situation eased in the neighbouring countries, Maldives has once again opened up travel for South Asian countries including India from 15th July 2021.
