Maldives Records Over 900,000 Tourist Arrivals in 2021

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the country has recorded 905,817 tourist arrivals between 1st January 202 and 9th October 2021.

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed 900,000 by 9th October 2021. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the country has recorded 905,817 arrivals between 1st January 2021 and 9th October 2021.

Arrivals in October have increased by 564.8 percent compared to the same period last year. The ministry’s figures show that daily average arrivals currently stand at 3,212.

Maldives welcomed the highest number of tourists in August, with numbers reaching 143,599. At present, India holds the highest market share. Russia, previously in the lead, now comes at a close second. India and Russia have been leading markets since the borders reopened in 2020.

Other leading individual markets include Germany, the United States, and Saudi Arabia.

Tourist arrivals this year have already exceeded 2020’s annual total. There is renewed hope that the nation will achieve its target to welcome 1.5 million tourists in 2021.
