Registration for the largest online running event in the Maldives, “Run for Maldives” opens on 1st September 2020. The event is open to anyone anywhere in the world. Participants can register for their choice to run from four categories and run anywhere.

Run for Maldives is a virtual run dedicated to heroes of COVID-19 and also in celebration of the 55th National Independence Year. The initiative aims to spread the spirit of togetherness and joy despite lockdowns and movement restrictions. Run for Maldives is all about physical distancing whilst maintaining important social relationships with your families, friends, and loved ones.

Run for Maldives is about empowering and honoring the great efforts by our frontline workers in this difficult time with covid-19. We have partnered with Maldivian Red Crescent and Maldivian Thalassemia Society to assist them in their effort in the battle against covid-19. A percentage of the funds generated from the event will go towards supporting these efforts. We encourage the public to participate and join in this together with us for a fun time and a good cause.

Tourism is the backbone of the Maldives’ economy. Thus, any effort to support the economy is vital, and therefore Run for Maldives is promoting Maldives as a destination by giving away 20 participants a Free Holiday in the Maldives. The Free stays are provided by the event host’s partner resorts and hotels.

The run for Maldives categories includes; 5.5km, 15km, 21km, and 870km. 870km is a team event as a team of 5 will jointly complete the distance within 21 days. Participants can run in their homes, on a treadmill, or also outdoors, and complete the run within a given time frame. Likewise, registration is open to ages 5 and above. Furthermore, registration Fees start from MVR 150. Each runner will receive a medal, delivered to the safety of their homes or given address.
