Top 10 Tourist Markets Since Border Reopening—As of 14th October 2020

26,720 tourist arrivals has been recorded since border reopening with and Russia, UAE & USA as the top tourist markets.

Until 14th October, the Maldives has recorded 26,720 tourist arrivals since the border reopening. According to statistics by the ministry of tourism, Russia and the United Arab Emirates are the leading tourist source markets as of 14th October 2020. Meanwhile, the United States remained as the third-leading source market.

According to the ministry of tourism, from 1st to 3rd October, the Maldives recorded 1,817 tourist arrivals. From 4th to 10th October, the country has recorded 3,867 tourist arrivals. Meanwhile, from 11th to 14th October, the Maldives recorded 2,169 tourist arrivals with a daily average of 542 tourists.

As for the best performing tourist markets, Russia lead with 4,817 tourist arrivals with a market share of 18%. The United Arab Emirates came in at 2nd place with 3,218 tourist arrivals; a market share of 12%. Followed by, the USA ranked in 3rd place with a share of 9.1% and 2,431 tourist arrivals. The United Kingdom was ranked the 4th place with 2,053 tourist arrivals. In addition to that, 1,366 1,217 and 991 tourist arrivals were recorded from Spain, Germany, and France ranking at 5th, 6th, and 7th top markets, respectively. Brazil, Ukraine, and Egypt were also among the top 10 tourist markets.

The ministry of tourism has also revealed that the Maldives has seen an increase in the resumption of international flights. Furthermore, with the resumption of guesthouses, tourist arrivals will increase as well. Ministry granted permission for 15 guesthouses to reopen in 6 islands, in 4 atolls. Likewise, wearing a mask is also mandatory at all times for tourists and locals in tourist guest house islands.

The ministry of tourism says that the objective is to keep the tourism industry stable once again. Thus, the ministry hopes to make the island archipelago a safe destination for travelers while keeping the momentum going.
