Tourist Arrivals to the Maldives has reached 7,628 on August 2020. with an average of 218 visitors to the island archipelago per day. The United Arab Emirates led the figures with 1,627 arrivals followed by the United Kingdom with 715 arrivals. 674 arrivals from the United States and 513 arrivals from Spain were recorded respectively.
According to the Maldives Immigration, the most number of tourists arrived on a day in August was 373. Likewise, Tourist Arrivals to the Maldives have been on the rise since the Maldives opened its borders to all travelers. Furthermore, the numbers are expected to rise higher with the reopening of additional resorts and resumption of guesthouse tourism in October.
Meanwhile, Newly-appointed tourism minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom earlier revealed an ambitious goal to welcome 500,000 in 2020. Likewise, the minister further indicated 120,000 is the lowest figure for the remainder of the year.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) continues the effort to promote the Maldives in different markets. MMPRC has been participating in and conducting several marketing campaigns. This includes “Maldives, The Sun Will Shine Again” Facebook Live Event, “Dream to Travel Festival”, an online event organized by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), webinar sessions targeted to Chinese and Indian travel trade, an online campaign with Kayak, a global advertising campaign with CNN and more.
Most recently, MMPRC launched a webinar campaign aiming to strengthen Maldives’ market presence and welcome tourists back to the Maldives. This is a component of the crisis recovery action plan, targeted to reconnect with the travel trade and the media of specific markets globally.
The popularity of Maldives in different markets remains strong as proven according to different statistics. In Google’s Year in Search 2019, Maldives has grown to become the favorite vacation destination for US holidaymakers. Likewise, according to recent data from Google Trends, the Maldives is the Europeans’ top holiday destination for 2021.
