Maldives President And First Lady Inaugurates Hurawalhi

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has initiated operations at Hurawalhi Maldives on Monday, 30th January. The newly established Hurawalhi Maldives in Faadhippolhu Atoll, is built and operated by Champa Lars Holding Pvt Ltd.

Fathimath Ibrahim, the First Lady of the Maldives inaugurated “5.8”; the world’s largest underwater restaurant installed at Hurawalhi Maldives.

“5.8” is an underwater restaurant made of glass for the most part and is fully submerged 5.8 meters under the sea. The restaurant holds capacity to serve 24 diners at a time. The 74 feet long restaurant stands on a steel structure and a transparent, acrylic dome situated 5.8 meters below the Indian Ocean, enabling the guests to experience the unusual phenomenon of dining and witnessing marine life passing by.

Hurawalhi Maldives is a five-star resort that offers 90 Villas. This includes 60 Ocean Villas and 30 Beach Villas for adult guests who seek luxury and variation. The Villas are stylish and exquisitely conceived featuring soothing décor, sumptuous linens on king size beds, bleached wooden floors, and private terraces with panoramic views.

Hurawalhi gives back to the Maldives with a strong environmental focus. Sustainable methods such as using solar panels, its own water bottling plant, energy saving solutions and hot water recovery.

With an in-house marine biologist, Hurawalhi’s eco credentials are one of the finest in the Maldives. Further, Hurawalhi is cooperating with Manta Trust, the marine conservation and education specialists. Manta Trust is teaming up with the resort’s own 5* PADI Instructors to provide educational guided dives and snorkeling through the marvelous reefs and shipwrecks near the island.

Hurawalhi is a nesting site for Green Turtles and the reef, a breeding ground for Manta Rays and Manta Trust is tasked with preserving this natural habitat as well as educating visitors on these beautiful and endangered creatures.

Maldives Takes Home Wins at World Travel Awards 2024!

Maldives is yet again taking home coveted awards at the World Travel Awards (Indian Coean Category), at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024. The award show which is being held at Dubai World Trade Center from 6th to 9th May recognises and rewards excellence in travel and tourism. It is no shock that the Maldives took home more than one award, as the destination has always been a tourist-hot spot.

The Maldives took home the following awards this year:

  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2024
  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2024
  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination 2024
  • Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination 2024

The resorts that won these awards for the Maldives are also noteworthy. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island claimed the coveted title of ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Hotel’. Vakkaru Maldives won ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Resort’. Coco Bodu Hithi, Maldives was named ‘Indian Ocean’s Most Romantic Resort’. Cora Cora Maldives also enjoyed a strong showing, winning ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort’.

The Maldives also won some of these categories at the 2023 World Travel Awards. Last year the Maldives won the Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2023 title. Additionally, the country also won the Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination 2023 and the Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination 2023. Two of these titles have been won by the Maldives since 2020. This year, however, the Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination was won by the beautiful Seychelles. In addition to the Maldives, Mauritius, Madagascar, and Reunion Island competed for this title.
