Velassaru Maldives proudly celebrates the successful completion of its first-ever “Leading Others Effectively” (LOE) programme. This initiative aimed to develop leadership skills among its supervisory and mid-management teams. By implementing this programme, the resort strengthens its commitment to nurturing future leaders who will drive continued success.
Launch of the LOE Programme
Velassaru launched the LOE programme in June 2024. Led by Mahmoud Abdelazim, Corporate Director of Learning and Development at Universal Resorts, the programme spanned six months and prepared emerging leaders to tackle the challenges of the luxury hospitality industry. During this period, participants honed critical skills in strategic planning, leadership, team-building, adaptability, and people management—skills that are essential for thriving in Velassaru’s fast-paced environment.
Furthermore, the training followed a four-phase methodology: “Explore It,” “Share It,” “Do It,” and “Live It.” This approach encouraged participants to absorb leadership concepts and actively apply them in real-world situations. As a result, they gained confidence in their decision-making and leadership. Additionally, their managers and colleagues supported them throughout, reinforcing the practical application of these skills.
Recognizing the Graduates
On 16 December 2024, Velassaru celebrated the completion of the LOE programme with a graduation ceremony at Etesian Restaurant. The event recognized the achievements of seven graduates in the presence of senior leaders, including General Manager Denys Hordiienko and Resort Manager Marjorie Cacacha. Moreover, the ceremony featured speeches from Hordiienko and Mahmoud Abdelazim, who commended the graduates for their accomplishments and emphasized the role they would play in leading and inspiring their teams.
The graduates include:

General Manager Denys Hordiienko praised the graduates for their commitment to leadership development.
“These individuals demonstrated remarkable commitment to developing their leadership capabilities, inspiring their teams, and contributing to the resort’s ongoing success. The graduates will now have the opportunity to apply their newly developed skills as they embrace their roles as mentors and team developers in 2025. By sharing their acquired knowledge and leading by example, they will foster a culture of growth and collaboration within Velassaru Maldives.”
