Maldives’ November Tourist Arrivals Exceeds 10,000

According to statistics, Maldives recorded approximately 10,972 tourist arrivals from 1st November 2020 to 11th November 2020.

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives in November 2020 has reached over 10,000. According to the figures by the Maldives’ Tourism Ministry, a total of 10,972 tourists have arrived in the island nation from 1st November to 11th November 2020.

The Maldives recorded a daily average of 997 tourist arrivals during this period (1st November to 11th November 2020). Moreover, Travellers are spending an average of 9.5 nights in the Maldives according to the Tourism Ministry. Likewise, with these arrivals, the total number of tourist arrivals to the island archipelago since the border reopening has crossed 50,000.

Approximately 51,354 tourists arrived in the Maldives by 11th November 2020 (since the borders reopened). Before the country closed its borders, a total of 382,760 tourists arrived in the Maldives.

Tourist arrivals to the island nation are steadily growing since the border reopening. So, more airlines have recommended in operations to the Maldives in the past few weeks due to rising demand and festive season. Likewise, additional airlines are expected to restart operations to the Maldives in coming months. Major airlines including Lufthansa and Emirates has increased flight frequency to the Maldives as well.

Last month, the Maldives has also recommended guesthouse operations. A significant number of guesthouses in local islands have restarted their operations as well. Since the COVID-19 cases are predominantly based in the capital Malé of the Maldives, other islands remain largely unaffected. Guests going to resorts also benefit from complete isolation with the Maldives’ one-island-one-resort concept.

The Tourism Minister of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom earlier said that the Maldives aims to reach a goal of 500,000 tourists by the end of 2020. Currently, only a small number of resorts have not reopened in the Maldives. However, all the resorts in the holiday destination are expected to be operational by December 2020.
