Maldives Records 96,881 Tourist Arrivals in February 2021

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives recorded 96,881 tourist arrivals from 1st February to 28th February 2021.

The Maldives has recorded over 96,000 tourist arrivals in February 2021. According to the official figures from the Maldives’ ministry of tourism, the island archipelago recorded approximately 96,881 tourist arrivals from 1st February to 28th February 2021.

During the month, Maldives also recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day during the year. This was on 21st February 2021, whereas the tropical holiday destination witnessed 5,268 tourist arrivals. Official figures also reveal that tourist spent an average of 8.8 days holidaying in the Maldives.

With the 96,881 arrivals in February 2021, the total number of arrivals the country has recorded so far is 188,984. While tourist arrivals to the country continue to steadily grow, this is a 40.7% decrease compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, tourist arrivals in February 2021 decreased by 33.3% compared to February 2020.

As of 28th February, India retains its position as the leading tourist source market of the Maldives. 44,039 tourists arrived in the Maldives from India this year. Meanwhile, Russia ranks in second place with 40,698 arrivals during the first 2 months of 2021.

Ukraine ranked 3 among the leading tourist source markets with 12,549 tourist arrivals. Other individual leading markets include Kazakstan, Germany, Romania, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom.

According to the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, 147 resorts, 11 hotels, 140 safari vessels, and 359 guesthouses are currently operational in the island nation. And the Tourism Ministry forecasts to welcome 1.5 million tourists in 2021. Likewise, the ministry predicts tourists will spend over 10 million bed nights in the Maldives this year.
