Authentic Maldives Duty-free Shop Opens Up

‘Authentic Maldives’, a new duty free shop exclusively for Maldivian crafts has opened up at Velana International Airport, Maldives.

Business Center Corporation initiated the work of the shop with the aim to promote and display authentic Maldivian products for those visiting the Maldives. 

The shop was launched by the Finance Minister, Ibrahim Ameer, and Economic Minister, Fayaz Ismail. Moosa Solih, the Acting Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) as well as the employees of the company took part in the inaugural ceremony held on 9th January 2020. 

the local products will be displayed at the shop within a set standard and guidelines, and that opportunities to showcase products will be given to other NGOs as well.

Authentic Maldives shop will provide a platform for local artists to showcase their talent through arts and crafts.The opportunity to showcase products for Maldivian businesses at the duty-free was opened in August 2019. 

The shop will offer the arriving and departing passengers with an array of genuine Maldivian items for purchasing. It is a great opportunity to promote Maldivian art and craftsmanship. 

MACL also initiated an exhibition “Souvenir Safari” in association with Women Entrepreneurs Association, near the Water Front Restaurant at the airport to showcase local products.

Prior to this role, Nisham served as the Financial Controller at Oaga Art Resort, where he played a key role in enhancing the resort’s financial structure. Additionally, his previous positions at Amilla Maldives and Anantara Kihavah Villas further highlight his skill in managing finances at high-profile luxury properties.
