Malé is the densely populated capital of the Maldives with colourful buildings. Locals often refer to the capital as the ‘concrete jungle’ of the Maldives. The capital city is connected to three islands; Malé, Hulhulé and Hulhumalé via the Sinamalé Bridge which opened in August 2018.

The Maldives’ main Velana International Airport is located on Hulhulé. Meanwhile, Hulhumalé is a reclaimed island developed as an expansion of Malé City. Today, Hulhumalé features several chic guesthouses close to the beachside.

The island capital of the Maldives teems with high rises and narrow streets, all ringed by seawalls. Shopaholics can savour Male’s flavours in the local markets, which are packed with fresh produce, and along Chaandanee Magu, the spot for local souvenirs, such as carved wooden dhonis, miniature replicas of the boats dotting area waters.
