Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Marked Earth Day 2025 with Art and Conservation

Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Marked Earth Day 2025

Sun Siyam Iru Fushi brought the spirit of Earth Day 2025 to life by embracing the global theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” through a meaningful day of community engagement and hands-on environmental action. To kick off the celebrations, the resort welcomed students and guests on April 22 to take part in two standout activities—a youth art competition and a coral planting experience—both designed to inspire awareness, creativity, and direct involvement in sustainability. Together, these events formed part of the resort’s wider Sun Siyam Cares programme, which continually drives its sustainability efforts across the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Inspiring the Next Generation Through Art

Specifically, the art competition invited students from the nearby islands of Velidhoo, Holhudhoo, and Kudafari to create original works inspired by the environment. In order to encourage fair participation, organizers grouped students into three categories—Grades 4–6, 7–9, and 10–12—and selected one winner from each. Following the competition, the top 12 students joined the resort’s Earth Day celebrations, where they shared their artwork and environmental messages. Looking ahead, the resort will digitize their pieces and include them in the 2026 Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Sustainability Calendar, thereby amplifying the young artists’ visions for a greener future.

Hands-On Conservation with Coral Planting

Meanwhile, guests took part in a coral planting experience led by the resort team. The activity allowed visitors to engage directly in reef restoration efforts and further highlighted the resort’s long-standing dedication to marine conservation. By doing so, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi emphasized how individual actions can support larger environmental goals.

Beyond Earth Day, Sun Siyam Resorts continues to lead sustainability efforts through its Sun Siyam Cares programme. The initiative focuses on reducing energy and water use, cutting down single-use plastics, managing waste, supporting local communities, and investing in renewable energy. In addition, the group actively protects local heritage and biodiversity. By applying clear sustainability policies, Sun Siyam Resorts minimizes its environmental impact and strengthens the socio-economic wellbeing of the communities it serves.
