Gulf Air Opens Museum For 70th Anniversary

Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, marks 70th anniversary by opening a temporary museum at the Bahrain City Centre shopping mall.

The museum showcases the rich history of the airline since the starting of it in 1950. Exclusive and rare photography as well as memorabilia items from different decades are featured at the museum. Moreover, various aircraft models and uniforms used throughout the 70 years will also be on display. In addition to highlighting the evolution of Gulf Air over the years and celebrating the history, the latest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Falcon Gold seat will also be displayed at the museum.

The museum will exclusively attract the local and regional footfall of the Bahrain city Centre shopping mall and will be open to the public for a limited period of time.

Today we start our 70th anniversary celebrations with the opening of this museum. Gulf Air’s history is very rich and it has touched the lives of every Bahraini if not every GCC national. The exhibited items represent various decades of our history and showcase the evolution of the brand and the business. I invite everyone to come and visit the museum and go back in time on a journey from 1950 until today.

The official opening was under the patronage of Zayed R. Alzayani, chairman of the board of directors at Gulf Air,

Gulf Air will carry on the modernization program for its fleet in 2020 and will acquire the final three  Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners of the 10 aircraft orders. Furthermore, the airline will take deliveries of the brand-new Airbus 321neo aircraft which will be dominantly deployed on the European long-haul routes. Gulf Air has announced its plans for expanding their destinations as well.

The first-ever Sea-to-Air Cargo Transshipment Commenced in the Maldives!

Velana Airport has announced the first-ever sea-to-air cargo transshipment along with Turkish Airlines, Maldives Ports Limited and Maldives Customs Service. This major step in cargo transhipment in the Maldives was celebrated on the 17th of May at the airport.

The  MoU for the ‘Sea to Air’ cargo transshipment services were signed earlier this year, on March 30th. With this, Turkish Airlines became the cargo partner to facilitate the service along with the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).

With the transshipment service, MPL can easily transport goods through both seas as well as air travel. In addition to catering to the needs of businesses and industries in the region, this will also help expedite the carrying of goods from one place to another. According to the Turkish Airlines’ Regional Cargo Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives Bilal Okur, this will help the airline’s target to develop the Maldives into a sea-to-air transshipment hub.

This innovative logistics solution is expected to significantly boost the efficiency of cargo movement. Additionally, this may also see the enhancement of trade opportunities for the Maldives.
