Over 278,000 people in the Maldives has been vaccinated against COVID-19. According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 278,469 people in the Maldives has received the second dose of the vaccine as of 4th August 2021.
In addition to that, 326,339 people have received the first dose of the vaccine. A substantial amount of employees in the tourism industry of the Maldives have also been fully vaccinated. To share a positive message about the vaccination of employees in the industry, the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with stakeholders started the I’m Vaccinated Campaign.
Under the campaign, the Maldives is targeting to have a fully vaccinated tourism sector. A fully vaccinated tourism sector will become an added advantage in encouraging tourists to visit the tropical holiday destination.
Once all residents of the Maldives receive the vaccine, the country plans to offer vaccines to travellers with the Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation initiative.
The Maldives is open to all international travellers with no restrictions. As of 3rd August 2021, the island nation has recorded 626,314 tourist arrivals. Furthermore, the Maldives targets to welcome 1.5 million tourists in 2021.
