Maldives Records Over 700,000 Tourist Arrivals in 2021

According to the statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives recorded over 700,000 tourist arrivals by 18th August 2021.

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed 700,000 on 18th August 2021. According to the statistics from the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, the tropical holiday destination recorded 700,594 tourist arrivals between 1st January 2021 and 18th August 2021.

Tourist arrivals have increased by 80.1% compared to this same period of last year. Likewise, the daily average of arrivals also increased in August 2021 compared to the previous months of this year.

By 18th August 2021 highest number of tourists arrived in the Maldives from Russia with 154,380 arrivals. Meanwhile, 132,745 tourists visited the island nation from India. Both Russia and India have been prominent markets since the Maldives reopened its borders in July 2020.

It is estimated that the Maldives will witness a new record of tourist arrivals in August 2021 compared to the previous months of the year. Statistics also show tourists are spending more days in the Maldives this month.
