A media team from the USA has arrived in the Maldives for a familiarization trip on invitation by Visit Maldives. This team will be staying in the Maldives from 3rd – 10th November 2021.

The team consists of freelance writers and travel journalists from the United States. Their coverage for this trip will include video, photo and articles published for USA Today, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Lonely Planet, Newsmax, Bleu Magazine and Matador Network’s “Creators”. The reach of these media are above millions, with their target audience covering high-end to budget travelers.

The USA market has a deep interest in conservation, sustainability, and wellness-focused experiences. The interests are aligned with a global trend of travelers wishing to reconnect with nature. Ultimately, travelers are interested in sustainability and ‘attainable luxury’. Therefore, this familiarization trip will highlight Maldives as a leading example of sustainable tourism and the perfect destination for travelers to unwind and reconnect with nature. Additionally, the trip will highlight Maldives as a safe haven for travelers all over the world. The purpose of the trip is to increase the arrivals from US and share the most updated destination information and to promote Maldives as a Safe Haven with a range of options available as accommodation.

The team will be hosted in Coco Bodu Hithi, Yacht Maldives and Reethi Beach Resort. During their stay they will experience the Maldivian hospitality and various amenities and services available in the individual properties. They will enjoy snorkeling, spa and wellness treatments, watersports and other activities available in the resorts. The media team will also get to experience the world class cuisines available in these resorts.

The media team from the USA is expected to cover one or more articles per person, regarding the destination and host properties following the FAM trip.

This familiarization trip is a great opportunity to relay the latest information about the destination, the strict safety measures in place in our resorts, hotels, guesthouses and liveaboards to potential tourists from the USA market. Through this, Visit Maldives will also promote the unique geography of the islands, which provides natural social distance for tourists, making Maldives one of the safest destinations for tourists to visit post-COVID. They can also market the unique experiences available for tourists in the Maldives.

The media familiarization trip is conducted as part of Visit Maldives’ strategy for the USA market to promote Maldives on high-end channels, focused advertising and promotion of individual products and experiences.

This is the second FAM Trip from this market for the year. To target the US market, Visit Maldives took part in ILTM North America in October and is planning to take part in DEMA Show 2021 in November.

By 14th October Maldives had welcomed 923,146 into the country. Currently USA is the 4th top source market to Maldives, with the country contributing 4.1 percent of the total arrivals. During this period 37,463 tourists from the USA visited the Maldives.

Visit Maldives Partners with Indian Filmmaker Farah Khan to Present Maldives’ Island Life in Festive Spirit

Farah Khan collaborates with MMPRC / Visit Maldives

Renowned Indian film director and choreographer, and producer, Farah Khan recently spent a few unforgettable days in the Maldives, soaking up island culture and joining in the vibrant spirit of Eid al-Adha. She visited the country from June 5 to June 8, 2025, as part of a special cultural collaboration that Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) organised to highlight the nation’s rich local traditions and engage Indian audiences during one of its most cherished celebrations.

Farah Khan’s Trip to the Maldives

Best known for her larger-than-life Bollywood choreography and hit films, Farah Khan has also built a strong reputation as a popular television personality. With more than 13 million followers across her social media platforms, she connects deeply with Indian and South Asian families, especially those planning leisure travel. Her broad appeal made her the ideal figure to bring attention to the Maldives’ cultural charm.

As part of the summer 2025 destination marketing campaign, Farah Khan stayed at the luxury resort Sun Siyam Olhuveli, and Arena Beach Maldives, a popular hotel on Maafushi Island. She experienced both the peaceful elegance of the islands and the genuine warmth of their local communities. A combination that defines the Maldives’ distinct character.

What did the collaboration involve?

Farah didn’t visit just to relax. Alongside her five-member crew, she came to the Maldives to film a special series of content pieces focused on everyday island life during Eid. She will soon release a full YouTube vlog and other engaging content to give viewers an up-close and personal look at the Maldives beyond its famous luxury resorts and postcard beaches.

During the Eid al-Adha festivities, Farah joined in the cultural celebrations by wearing the traditional red Dhivehi libaas, a moment captured on video and shared by MMPRC. In that video, she delivered heartfelt Eid wishes on behalf of India to the people of the Maldives, adding a warm, personal gesture to the collaboration.

Why does this campaign matter?

Visit Maldives continues to team up with well-known and relatable public figures to reach key international markets. India remains one of the Maldives’ top tourism source markets, and by partnering with someone as familiar and trusted as Farah Khan, the destination strengthens its visibility and appeal for Indian travellers.

By blending luxurious experiences with cultural richness, this campaign paints a full picture of what the Maldives offers, especially during meaningful moments like Eid.

What content can viewers look forward to?
