The Return of Hong Kong Airlines to the Maldives

Celebrating the arrival of Hong Kong Airlines.
After almost a four year long hiatus, the Maldives has welcomes its first direct flight from Hong Kong to The Maldives since 2020.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 was a year that the tourism industry came to a halt. This meant that a large portion of direct airlines stopped flying to the Maldives as well. Since then, airlines have been slowly re-starting their passenger favourite routes prior to the pandemic – and as such Hong Kong Airlines has also re-started its flights back to the Maldives!

Celebrating this joyous occasion, a special ceremony was hosted at the Velana International Airport (VIA). Travellers were welcomed to the tropical destination with traditional BoduBeru as well as a special gift pack including flowers.

Marking this special occasion, several dignitaries including the Ambassador from the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, H.E Ambassador Ms Wang Lixin, representatives from The Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Immigration, Maldives Customs Service, along with government-related enterprises & tourism associations in the Maldives attended the ceremony.

This marks another milestone as Hong Kong Airlines flight HX791 from Hong Kong International Airport to the Maldives landed in the Maldives, celebrating the return of this traveller market to the country.
