Honorary Consul of the Maldives in the Czech Republic, Jaromír Kalčic⁦ has paid a courtesy call on Maldives Tourism Minister, Dr. Mausoom.

Honorary Consul of the Maldives in the Czech Republic, Jaromír Kalčic⁦ has paid a courtesy call on Maldives Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom on 24th September 2020. According to the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Jaromír and the tourism minister discussed further strengthening bilateral collaboration between both countries for tourism development.

According to the statistics from the Maldives Immigration, 69 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Czech Republic between 1st September 2020 and 15th September 2020. Likewise, 118 tourist arrivals were recorded from the Czech Republic to the Maldives in August 2020. Tourism minister Mausoom tweeted that he hopes for more tourists and investments from the Czech Republic in the coming years.

Earlier this month, Minister Mausoom has also met the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, H.E. Rear Admiral Nazmul. In addition to that minister has also held discussions with the British High Commissioner to Maldives, Ambassador of China to the Maldives, and High Commissioner of India to Maldives as well.

The Tourism Ministry has been working on further strengthening relationships between the Maldives and key tourist market destinations. Meanwhile, a total of 13,516 tourists arrived in the Maldives during the first 2 months after the borders reopened. According to statistics by the Maldives immigration, tourist arrivals to the Maldives has increased by 61% during the second month since border reopening.

From 16th August to 15th September, a total of 8,339 tourists arrived in the Maldives as well. Statistics from 1st September to 15th September 2020 reveal United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the leading source market with 656 arrivals. Maldives made it mandatory for tourists to present a negative PCR test upon their arrival from 10th September 2020. The island nation was also granted the ‘Safe Travels Stamp’ by World Travel and Tourism Council. The stamp is the world’s first-ever global safety and hygiene stamp for Travel & Tourism.
