British Airways has announced the resumption of its direct winter service to the Maldives from 16th October 2020. The seasonal flights will depart three times a week on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday from London Heathrow.

Flights will land the following day at Velana International Airport. Meanwhile, direct flights from the Maldives to London will depart on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. For a safer experience for travelers, British Airways has introduced various measures. Furthermore, the air on all British Airways flights is fully recycled once every two to three minutes through HEPA filters.

We’re glad to be returning to more destinations this month, connecting the UK with more and more countries around the world. With increases in both long and short haul services, there is a destination for anyone, and with our enhanced safety measures we hope this encourages people to start planning their next getaway.

Neil Chernoff, Director of Network and Alliances at British Airways, said

The UK is amongst the top 10 source markets for the Maldives’ tourism industry. Before the lockdown in March, a total of 7,288 visitors from the UK arrived in the Maldives this year. Meanwhile, 625 tourists arrived from the UK in September 2020, making it the 4th highest performing market in terms of tourist arrivals. In addition to that, according to the latest figures from the Maldives Immigration, a total of 9,538 tourists arrived in the Maldives in September 2020.
