Tourists arrivals to the Maldives has increased by 66% in November 2020 with over 35,000 tourist arrivals during the month.

The Maldives has recorded 35,759 tourist arrivals in November 2020. According to the figures by Maldives Immigration, tourist arrivals have increased by 66% in November 2020.

An average of 1,192 travellers arrived in the Maldives per day, in November. Daily tourist arrivals to the Maldives saw an increase of 72% in November 2020 as well. Likewise, the month’s highest number of tourist arrivals recorded in a single day was 2,299. This figure is also the highest number of arrivals recorded in a single day since the island nation reopened its borders.

In terms of the leading tourist markets, Russia continues to retain its position as the top contributor. A total of 8,581 tourists from Russia arrived in the Maldives during the month. This is an increase of 43% as well. Secondly, tourist arrivals from neighbouring India grew by a whopping 445% with 7,610 tourist arrivals.

Followed by India, 2,093 tourists arrived from the USA, an increase of 44%. Meanwhile, 2,091, 2,087, & 1,245 tourist arrivals were recorded from the United Kingdom, Germany and Ukraine respectively.

The United Arab Emirates ranked as the 7th leading tourist source market for the Maldives. A total of 1,033 tourists arrived from UAE, according to the Maldives immigration. Moreover, Brazil, Switzerland & Czech Republic ranked as the 8, 9 & 10 top source markets respectively.

Since the Maldives reopened its borders, tourist arrivals have steadily started growing. Furthermore, the tropical holiday destination expects arrivals to further increase with the holiday season.

In November 2020, Maldives won prestigious honours at the 27th edition of the World Travel Awards as well. The island archipelago claimed the title of the World’s Leading Destination for the first time this year. Moreover, 8 properties in the Maldives have also grabbed awards globally.
