Maldives’ Top 10 Tourist Markets for January 2021

Wondering which were Maldives’ top 10 tourist source markets for January 2021? The holiday destination recorded 92,103 tourist arrivals in January 2021. And according to the figures, 22.8% of these arrivals came from Russia. Closely tied with Russia, 20.8% of the 92,103 tourists came from India in January 2021. Here are Maldives’ top 10 tourist source markets in January 2021.

1. Russia

The leading tourist source market in January 2021 was Russia. A total of 20,973 tourists visited the Maldives from Russia, ranking the country as the leading tourist source market. Furthermore, compared to January 2020, tourists arrivals from Russia increased by 67.4%.

2. India

The Maldives recorded 19,135 tourist arrivals from India. By the end of 2020, 62,960 tourists visited the Maldives from India. Hence, making India the leading tourist market in 2020. Compared to January 2020, tourists arrivals from India grew by 38.2%.

Several Indian celebrities have also spent their vacation in the Maldives in January 2021. Sara Ali Khan, Yash, Lakshmi Manchu, Nikita Sharma, Raiza Wilson and many more spent their getaway in the sunny side of life during the month.

3. Ukraine

Tourist arrivals from Ukraine grew by a whopping 196.2% in January 2021 (compared to the same period last year). Moreover, the Maldives witnessed a total of 7,210 tourist arrivals from Ukraine.

4. Kazakhstan

Another growing market, 4,434 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Kazakhstan. Likewise, with a market share of 4.8%, tourists arrivals from Kazakhstan grew by 152.5%.

5. Romania

3,921 tourists arrived in the Maldives from Romania in January 2021. The Maldives has become a popular destination with Romanians within the past few months. Likewise, arrivals from Romania grew by 93.5% in January 2021. Several Romanian celebs including; INNA, Adelina Pestritu and also Bianca Dragusanu spent their vacation in the Maldives.

6. France: 3,728 arrivals with a market share of 4.0%.

7. Germany: Arrivals decreased by 65.6 compared to January 2020. However, 3,390 tourists arrived from Germany (including Dieter Bohlen!).

8. United Kingdom: 2,504 tourist arrivals in January 2021.

9. United States: Recorded 1,960 arrivals — a decrease of 61.2%.

10. Switzerland: 1,958 tourist arrivals.

The Maldives aims to welcome 1.5 million tourists in 2021. The holiday destination witnessed a total of 555,494 arrivals in 2020. Region-wise, Europe contributed to the highest number of arrivals in 2020 and also so far in 2021.
