The flag carrier of Singapore, Singapore Airlines have restarted flight operations to the Maldives today, 30th March 2021. According to Velana International Airport, the airline will fly 3 times per week from Changi Airport.

With the addition of Singapore Airlines, 30 airlines are currently operating flights to the Maldives. According to the Maldives Airports Company Ltd, the flag carrier of Singapore will operate flights on Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesdays every week.

Thanks to all who contributed towards restarting this vital connection between Velana International Airport, Maldives and Changi Airport, Singapore.

Tourism Minister of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said.

The Maldives is currently one of the few holiday destinations travellers can access hassle-free with connecting flights from all over the globe. The island nation has welcomed over 100,000 tourists this March 2021.

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have steadily grown as more airlines restarted their flight operations to the island archipelago. This is thanks to the rigorous safety measures the government and resorts have taken to curb the spread of COVID-19.

According to the latest statistics from the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, 103,219 tourists have visited the Maldives by 29th March 2021. Likewise, the highest number of tourists arrived in the Maldives from India and Russia. Meanwhile, other leading top source markets include; Ukraine, Germany, Kazakhstan, Romania, United States, United Kingdom, Czech Republic and France.

This March, the island nation has also welcomed the highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day. Over 5,200 tourists visited the country on 26th March 2021.

In total, 292,204 tourists arrived in the Maldives this year, 2021. The tropical holiday destination aims to welcome 1.5 million tourists this year. Likewise, the tourism ministry forecasts that the Maldives will witness over 10 million bed nights.
