Vakkaru Maldives has pledged its support for the Australian bushfire crisis by hosting a charity dinner in order to raise funds for Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service (WIRES).
Guests were invited to the charity dinner at Vakku Grill, the resort’s signature restaurant on the beach. The set menu was inspired by Australia’s food culture and curated by the General Manager Nicholas Mason, Executive chef Prasong Taochan and Sommelier Stefanie Wiesner.
We’re located in a UNESCO biosphere reserve here in Baa Atoll, so we understand the importance and fragility of healthy ecosystems. It’s heartbreaking to see so many injured animals and such widespread loss of life and natural habitat.”
Nicholas Mason stated
The charity dinner took place on 11th January 2020.The set menu for the night included braised pork belly with vegemite sauce, grilled Australian black angus beef tenderloin and Tasmanian salmon couscous, chai cake for the main course as well as choices of pavlova and lamington for dessert. Wine pairing was also a part of the evening with some of Australia’s finest wines chosen by Stefanie Wiesner.
All the funds raised will be donated to WIRES in order to help all the animals affected by the bushfire and to ensure they receive the best of care.
