The Maldives has recorded 21,515 tourist arrivals in October 2020 with a daily average of 694 tourist arrivals to the island archipelago.

The Maldives has recorded 21,515 tourist arrivals in October 2020. According to the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, the island nation saw a daily average of 694 tourist arrivals in the Month. Additionally, the ministry reported tourists spent an average of 9.6 nights during their stay.

From 1st November to 4th November 2020, Maldives recorded 3,983 tourist arrivals. Likewise, on 1st November, the island nation saw the highest number of tourism arrivals since the border reopening. A total of 1,590 tourists arrived in the island nation on 1st November 2020. 

A total of 44,365 tourist arrivals to the Maldives has been recorded from 15th July 2020 to 4th November 2020. The country opened its borders to all international visitors on 15th July 2020. Before the Maldives closed its borders, 382,760 tourists spent their holidays in the ‘sunny side of life’. So, as of 4th November 2020, Maldives has recorded 427,212 tourist arrivals.

On 1st November 2020, Velana International Airport has also witnessed a record number of flight movements per single-day. According to the Maldives Airports Company (MACL), this is the highest number of flight movements since the Maldives reopened its borders. The airport witnessed 69 runway movements. Meanwhile, there were 227 seaplane movements. 

Since the border reopening after the global COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, several international airlines have resumed operations to the Maldives. This includes; Aeroflot, Air India, British Airways, Edelweiss, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Indigo, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways and more. In addition to those airlines, Air Seychelles, Silk Air, Azur and other airlines have also announced to start operations to the holiday destination.

The Maldives’ October 2020’s tourist arrivals remain 84.8% less compared to October 2019. However, tourists visiting the island nation keeps growing at a steady pace. Likewise, the Maldives aims to reach a total of 500,000 tourist arrivals by the end of 2020.
