What You Need to Know About Airbnb’s Latest Policy Update

Airbnb has just announced an update on their policy, and this might be worth noting for travellers as well as hosts.

When it comes to Airbnb policy updates, it’s always worth knowing what the new updates are. This goes for both travellers as well as hosts to make travel accommodations safer for guests. Airbnb has been one of the most popular forms of travel accommodations since its inception. In addition to being a great choice for those looking for a homestay feel, Airbnb also provides a cheaper alternative to hotels. With this, Airbnb has also become a community-based platform where travellers can choose the best accommodation for their trip.

The community in Airbnb not only helps travellers find the best accommodation but also ensures that travellers are up to date on the latest policy updates. If you’re an avid traveller who constantly chooses Airbnb as your go-to stay, you must know about the latest Airbnb update.

Updated Airbnb Policy 2024

On March 11th, Airbnb announced its latest policy update, which involves security cameras. In their latest update, Airbnb has announced that the company is banning the use of indoor security cameras. According to the company, the new policy update applies to all Airbnb listings globally. This policy update comes as a part of the company’s prioritising the privacy of the community.

Before this update Airbnb allowed hosts to put up security cameras in common areas such as living rooms and kitchens. Although most Airbnb hosts opt to only have door cams for security reasons, there are still a few listings which opt to have cameras in common areas. For travellers, especially in this internet age this might come as an uncomfortable addition. With this, the latest policy update on Airbnb is going to make the travel experience more positive this year.

Our goal was to create new, clear rules that provide our community with greater clarity about what to expect on Aribnb. These changes were made in consultation with out guests, hosts and privacy experts, and we’ll continue to seek feedback to help ensure our policies work for our global community, says Juniper Downs- Airbnb’s Head of Community Policy and Partnerships.

With this update, Airbnb has made it clear that security cameras are not allowed inside listings, regardless of their location, purpose or prior disclosure. The revised policy also has a more comprehensive rule on the use of outdoor security cameras and other devices. Hosts will now be required to disclose the presence and general location of any outdoor cameras before guests book.

Although this applies to Aribnb listings, hotel listings can still have indoor cameras. However, it only applies to common spaces such as lobbies, hallways, and restaurants.
